Neck plastic surgery (platysmaplasty)

Platysmaplasty is aimed to solve such patients’ problems as jowly chin line, loose and wrinkly neck skin, loss of elasticity (“double chin”, “turkey neck”), and make distinctive angle between neck and face. The name of this procedure is derived from the name of a muscle located under the neck skin “platysma”. The most popular methods of neck plastic surgery are lateral and medial plasty, cervicoplasty.

Procedure of neck lift surgery:

In the course of the procedure an incision is made underneath the chin. If necessary, two more incisions are made behind the ear area. The incisions are made in the natural creases on the neck so to conceal the scars after platysmaplasty.

A surgeon approaches the neck muscle through the incision. Then (s)he sutures the muscle edges which have gone apart due to some factors along the center line. Thus, the platysma is strengthened. In order to emphasize the angle between neck and chin the wedge-shaped dissection is made on the muscle along its internal edge. If excess fat is detected under the muscle it will be removed.

At the end of surgery the muscle is evenly tightened and the cut is sutured. The incisions are sutured with cosmetic stitches. A bandage is attached to the neck to reduce post-surgical swelling and help to preserve the achieved result. It tightens the muscle after surgery shaping it as required. It should remain attached for 5 to 7 days.

Preparation to neck plastic surgery:

Before a patient is prescribed platysmaplasty a doctor carries out a comprehensive clinical examination. It includes biochemical blood and urine test, ECG, X-ray examination. Blood is also investigated for dangerous infections and viruses; the blood clotting ability and Rh factor are determined too. It is necessary to have a consultation with an anesthesiologist to select an anesthesia method and detect possible drug allergies.

If a patient is also prescribed neck liposuction procedure a doctor determines the locations of fat deposits, checks patient’s skin resilience, measures the size of salivary glands. Platysma is inspected closely as well. Its sagging, symmetry and deformation degree are estimated. Angle between the neck and chin is measured.

After making all measurements and studying analyses results a doctor draws up the treatment plan and works out the course of procedure. This plan is individual for every patient.

2 weeks before the plastic surgery a patient should stop smoking and consuming alcohol. No eating and drinking is allowed 8 hours before surgery. Also, intestines are purged using purgatives or enema.

Procedure/surgery duration: 3 hours

Anesthesia: general anesthesia

Postoperative period:

Immediately after surgery the patient is transferred to a ward and kept there under doctor’s supervision for 2 days. Swelling or bruising can occur during the next 4 days but soon they resolve on their own. Sutures are removed in a week after the surgery. If a patient feels pain the painkillers are prescribed. As pain subsides the painkillers dosage is reduced and once all pain is gone the use of painkillers is stopped.

Visiting sauna and solarium is prohibited within 4 weeks following this plastic surgery. It is also important to avoid intense physical activities and stress.

You will be able to enjoy the final results in 2 months after surgery. Your beautiful and tight neck will retain its elasticity for at least 10 years. Doctors advice using massage and nourishing masks to improve surgery result.
