Areola correction

Breast areola and nipple correction is a plastic surgery procedure. This procedure helps to correct unwanted defects (inverted nipple, asymmetry, excessive diameter, etc.), change the shape and size of areola, enhance a woman’s breast appearance. This procedure is often carried out along with other types of breast surgery.

Process of breast areola correction:

In the course of inverted nipple correction a surgeon removes those fibers that pull the nipple milk ducts. Modern microsurgery techniques are used to avoid tissue injury. This allows preserving full function of milk ducts for breastfeeding a baby in the future. For correction it is enough to make an incision up to 1 cm in length. A nipple is flattened through it. Then the incision is closed with a cosmetic suture which is almost invisible. This type of surgery cause no damage of the breast tissue.

Areola size reduction and reshaping surgery is simple and safe for breast. Using several small incisions the excess pigmented areola skin is removed which allows reducing its size to 4-5 cm.

Laser correction of nipples and areola has become popular recently. This procedure affects only the surface tissues. The greatest advantage of this procedure lies in complete absence of scars after surgery. After its completion the nipples sensitivity is fully preserved.

Preparation to breast areola correction surgery:

Despite all nipple surgeries being quite simple a doctor will still make a standard clinical examination appointment for a patient before a procedure. It is necessary to carry out general and biochemical analyses of blood and urine, and undergo ECG and X-ray examination. Furthermore, blood is tested for dangerous infections and viruses (AIDS, hepatitis, syphilis, etc.). The Rh factor, blood sugar level and clotting ability are determined. Also, breast ultrasound and mammogram are performed.

It is important to stop taking any hormonal contraceptives, smoking and consuming alcohol. If a patient continues to take definite medicines she should tell her doctor about it.

Upon all analyses, a doctor studies the obtained information to identify possible contraindications (cardiovascular system diseases, hypertension, varicose veins, tendency to thrombosis, oncological diseases, any infections, cold). Surgery will not be performed until full recovery.

Surgery duration: 1 hour

Anesthesia: general or local

Postoperative period:

As nipple correction is an outpatient procedure a patient will be discharged from the clinic immediately after surgery. If on the first day after surgery a patient feels burning a doctor prescribes painkillers. Sometimes a doctor can prescribe antibacterial therapy to reduce the risk of infection.

There is no need to remove stitches as all cuts are sutured with self-absorbable threads. Absorption of threads usually takes 5 to 6 days. During the recovery period it is important to use antiseptic solutions on the nipples. Patients can get back to their normal way of living within a few days after the correction.
